Nandamuri Balakrishna’s highly anticipated film ‘Akhanda 2’ has faced an unexpected setback just a day before its scheduled release on 5th December, leaving fans disappointed. The film, which had generated massive excitement—especially with Harshali Malhotra, known as Munni from Bajrangi Bhaijaan, adding to the hype—will now see its release postponed due to reasons beyond the makers’ control.
Premiere Shows Cancelled Due to Technical Issues
On 4th December, the production house 14 Reels Plus announced the cancellation of all paid premiere shows, citing technical problems. In a statement on X, they said:
“Today’s ‘Akhanda 2’ premiere shows have been cancelled due to technical issues. We made every possible effort, but certain matters were beyond our control. We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused.”
The announcement, made just a night before the scheduled release, has left fans frustrated, as they were eagerly awaiting the film’s premiere.
Legal Dispute Behind the Delay
The release postponement is reportedly tied to a legal dispute involving Eros International Media Ltd. According to Cinema Express, the Madras High Court issued an order halting the film’s release following a long-standing case in favor of Eros.
Under the court’s directive, Akhanda 2 cannot be screened in theaters, released on digital platforms, or broadcast via satellite until outstanding dues—approximately ₹28 crore plus 14% interest—are cleared. Eros argued that 14 Reels Plus LLP, an extension of 14 Reels Entertainment, should not be allowed to release the film without settling the financial liability, as it would enable promoters to profit while avoiding their obligations.
Production House Assures Fans
The makers have promised to resolve the issue at the earliest and shared:
“It is a sad moment for us to inform you that due to unavoidable circumstances, ‘Akhanda 2’ will not release as scheduled. We fully understand the disappointment of our fans and are making every effort to resolve the matter quickly. Your support means a lot to us, and we will share a positive update soon.”
Fans will now have to wait for the new release date, as the production house works through the legal and technical challenges.
