New Delhi: Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya will miss the upcoming India vs South Africa ODI series due to ongoing injury concerns. Reports confirm that Pandya’s comeback to the Indian team has been postponed, with the BCCI prioritizing his full recovery before he returns to international cricket.
ODI Series Absence
Pandya was initially expected to make his return during the ODI series, scheduled as follows:
- 1st ODI: 30 November – Ranchi
- 2nd ODI: 3 December – Raipur
- 3rd ODI: 6 December – Visakhapatnam
However, the BCCI medical team and team management have decided against rushing him back. They believe that jumping straight into the 50-over format could put excessive strain on his body, which has been out of competitive cricket for almost two months.
Revised Comeback Plan
Instead of playing ODIs immediately, Pandya will return to competitive cricket via the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Vadodara, starting 30 November or 2 December. He is expected to play at least three matches in the tournament, gaining crucial match practice ahead of the India vs South Africa T20 series, which begins 9 December.
A senior official explained, “This approach is standard for players with a history of injuries. Gradually increasing workload through T20 matches ensures a safe return, rather than risking injury in longer formats immediately.”
Medical Advisory and Rehab
Pandya has been undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Center of Excellence in Bengaluru for several weeks, following an injury that kept him out of the Asia Cup 2025 final against Pakistan and the home series against Australia. The medical team has recommended a carefully scheduled return to avoid overloading his body.
Looking Ahead
With the T20 World Cup 2026 in February-March being the next major target, the BCCI and team management have prioritized Pandya’s long-term fitness over a short-term ODI return. Fans can expect his on-field comeback in the T20 format first, ensuring he is fully prepared for high-intensity international competitions.
Hardik Pandya’s measured return strategy reflects the BCCI’s commitment to player fitness and longevity, balancing immediate team needs with long-term planning.
