Cricket matches between India and Pakistan are always high-voltage affairs, capturing the imagination of fans across the subcontinent. While India has dominated in recent years, there was a moment when Pakistan gained the upper hand—most memorably during the 2021 T20 World Cup.
In that tournament, Pakistan achieved their first-ever World Cup win against India, defeating them by 10 wickets in Dubai. Pakistan chased down India’s target of 152 runs without losing a wicket, finishing the match with 13 balls to spare. Captain Babar Azam scored an unbeaten 68 runs, while Mohammad Rizwan contributed a brilliant 79-run innings. India, meanwhile, was eliminated in the group stage, whereas Pakistan advanced to the semifinals.
A Victory to Remember
Babar Azam recently made his return to the T20 squad after a long gap, having missed the Asia Cup. Reflecting on the historic win against India, Babar told Kevin Pietersen in a show, “Beating India means a lot to me. In 2021, when we defeated India in the T20 World Cup, it was one of my fondest memories. It was the first time I led Pakistan to a World Cup victory over India.”
Eyes on ICC Glory
Babar Azam continues to dream of lifting an ICC trophy for Pakistan. “We reached the final but lost. That motivates me to work harder on my fitness and skills. I’m trying to stay fitter, and my body functions differently now, but I am still sharp and ready,” he said.
As the India-Pakistan rivalry heats up once again, fans eagerly await Babar’s performance, hoping he can recreate the magic and continue to challenge India on the global stage.
