Tragic Shooting Shatters Wedding in Meerut: Bride-to-Be Killed, Groom Flees, Family Arrested

Meerut: A wedding celebration in Meerut turned into a tragedy when celebratory gunfire claimed the life of a young woman, Aksha, just moments before the groom’s procession was to begin. Police have arrested the groom’s mother and brother, while the groom and his father remain at large.

Incident Details
The incident occurred on Monday night in Shyam Nagar, 20 Foota Road, as the groom, Suhel, son of Shahnawaz, was about to depart for his baraat in Fafunda. Suddenly, gunshots rang out, shocking the entire neighborhood. According to eyewitnesses, some guests fired pistols and revolvers repeatedly, turning the joyful night into a scene of chaos.

Aksha, a 22-year-old daughter of local grocer Arshad, was at her relative Yameen’s home in the same area, standing on the terrace with other girls, eagerly watching the baraat preparations. Within seconds, a stray bullet struck her in the abdomen. She was rushed by her brother to KMC Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Police Action and Investigation
Aksha’s family has alleged that Suhel, his brother Shakib, mother Praveen, and father Shahnawaz had been firing guns repeatedly throughout the afternoon. During the baraat, over 20 rounds were reportedly fired. Arshad, Aksha’s father, claimed the shots were deliberately aimed. Police have registered a case under murder charges. CCTV footage recovered so far shows Shakib firing one of the bullets, which is believed to have fatally struck Aksha. Shakib and his mother Praveen have been arrested and sent to jail, while efforts continue to apprehend Suhel and Shahnawaz.

Wedding Called Off
The tragic incident also led to the cancellation of Suhel’s wedding at King Palace in Fafunda. Following the murder case, the bride’s family refused to proceed with the marriage, delivering a huge shock to the groom’s family. With tensions escalating, Suhel and his father fled the scene, and the baraat never reached the venue.
