Ujjain: Waqf Board Chairman, Director Receive Beheading Threats After Welcoming RSS Path Sanchalan; Two Men Booked

Ujjain (MP):
A shocking case of religious extremism has surfaced in Ujjain after the Chairman and Director of the Waqf Board received explicit beheading threats on social media. Their only “offence” was welcoming the RSS Path Sanchalan during the organisation’s Foundation Day event — a gesture aimed at promoting social harmony.

The Mahakal police have registered a case against two youths and begun an intensive investigation.

The Controversy: RSS Parade Welcome Sparks Online Hate

On 5 October, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) organised its Path Sanchalan in Ujjain to mark its Foundation Day.
From the stage, Waqf Board Chairman Sanwar Patel and Director Faizan Khan welcomed the procession.
Photos and videos of the event went viral — and soon triggered anger among some individuals.

Two men posted abusive comments on social media and issued threats to “behead” the officials for supporting the RSS event.

Threatening Posts Go Viral

The accused allegedly wrote:

“You are hypocrites. Insha Allah, when Muslims gain majority, your head will be the first to be cut.”

Police say these remarks are not only abusive but also amount to clear death threats, which they are treating with utmost seriousness.

Police Case Registered After Detailed Probe

Waqf Board Director Faizan Khan lodged a written complaint at Mahakal Police Station on 11 October, naming Taj Ansari and Moh. Faizal Khan for issuing threats and humiliating them online.

After a month-long investigation, police registered a case on 9 November under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Officials confirm that searches are underway to locate and arrest the accused.

‘We Were Promoting Social Harmony,’ Says Complainant

Speaking on the matter, Faizan Khan said:

“We welcomed the Path Sanchalan to maintain peace and communal harmony in Ujjain. But ever since the video went online, some hardliners have been threatening us.”

He added that the continuous stream of obscene and derogatory comments has left them worried for their safety and has damaged their dignity.

Police Intensify Investigation in Sensitive Case

Given the seriousness and communal sensitivity of the threats, police have stepped up the probe, monitored online activity, and collected digital evidence.

Authorities say they will take strict action to prevent any attempt to disrupt peace in the region.
